Business
Arising From The Minutes:
- Bob S. would like a report from the b'ball camp that
R. Burgess ran last month
- Trevor will remind Rhett that a report needs to be
submitted
- b'ball programs are now out, please make sure they
are available for all games
- Dave R. will send b'ball season tickets to all Board
members
Commissioner's
Reports:
Volleyball:
- not all bills are in so a financial report is not
possible at this time
- P.A. St. Mary's has been awarded the 5A provincial
v'ball championships next year
- Larry S. thought the coverage for v'ball was weak
this season and reminds coaches to get media reports
to the paper and radio
- Brad H. addressed his concerns for the number of teams
competing at the 4A and 5A classification
Basketball:
- thanks to the Times Herald for the wonderful b'ball
coverage at the start of the year!
- Dave R. would like to see this coverage extended to
other sports
- Brad M. reminds coaches to check the changes to the
b'ball schedule
- Martin is requesting that first and last names be
put on the score sheet and to correctly fill in the
appropriate categories
- if anyone is looking for a tournament, they should
check the SHSAA message board
- Larry S. is wondering how officials are selected for
Hoopla? Also, should the Directorate have a say in who
represents Moose Jaw?
- Martin reported that the association puts forth 5
names and comments on their ability. From there the
SHSAA decides
- Brad H. wonders if the coaches should not have a say
in who is selected.
- after discussion of b'ball officials selection, Brad
H. would like to see coaches have an input as to who
is selected
- Larry S. asked Martin if he could bring forward the
names of the 5 officials to the directorate meeting
- Martin said this is not possible because even those
selected are unaware that they have been selected
- Larry S. would like to ensure that we are sending
our highest quality officials to Hoopla
- Jr. Tournament (Renee) - Caronport will be seeded
as a home team. Minor officials duties will be assigned
to Caronport. RVCI girls will not be in the Moose Jaw
tourney this year.
- Classic (Ned) - a few teams have pulled out leaving
Ned looking for 2 replacements
Football:
- Larry S. - on Jan 10 Norm Fong will be down to check
equipment. He will start at CCI @ 9:00 then proceed
to PCI And VCI around lunch time and will end off at
RVCI
- thanks to Dave Green for organizing the equipment
check
- Motion: (Larry) 2nd (Martin) to accept the football
report as circulated - Carried
- thanks Larry for all of your hard work with football
New
Business:
- Dave R. handed out a report from the Presidents' meeting
and encouraged everyone to read through it
- Dave also displayed a sample of the poster Saskatoon
uses to promote high school sport
- The following are highlighted points from the meeting:
-is there a need for an official's commissioner from
this district?
-Martin feels there is not a need because we are already
well represented at these meetings
-there is a lot of frustration from around the province
about lack of in school coaches
-SHSAA is still looking at changing the districts -
possibly 8 instead of 13
-currently there is a committee looking into this which
Larry S. sits on
-Larry S. feels this will become a reality in a few
years
- Blake is wondering if the Newfoundland students are
able to attend athletic functions for free - everyone
agreed
- Bob S. would like to receive some information as to
who is involved in the club v'ball activities and where
these activities are being held?
- could the people involved in these club programs please
report on what their club is doing so that the Directorate
can ensure that our beliefs and policies are being followed?
- Brad H. believes that this is a good idea but should
be done for all sports not just v'ball
- there seems to be a lot of questions surrounding club
v'ball: 1) who is coaching? 2) how much are players
paying? 3) why are there 3 club teams instead of 1?
4) who can play? 5) etc.
- Bob S. would like answers to these questions so that
he could report back to the Directorate at the next
meeting
