Chinook SD Sports Report

                The cross country season came to a close with both the SWAC district championships and the SHSAA provincial championships being held in the same week.  Originally the SWAC districts were to be held in Grasslands National Park on Oct 5.  But after heavy rain and snowfall, the event had to be moved.  A big thank you to Eastend School, Eastend Golf Course and commissioner Marie Hanson for graciously hosting us!  Despite a snowy course and a cool day, we had a great day with over 100 students taking part.  Schools participating included All Saints, Cabri, Consul, Ecole Centennial, Eastend, Frontier, Herbert, Hodgeville, Ponteix, Val Marie, Swift Current Comp, O.M. Irwin and Wymark.

                Runners in the midget, junior and senior categories were eligible to attend SHSAA provincial championships in Delisle on October 15.  Results were as follows:

                The Swift Current Colts football team played 2 games in the Moose Jaw 12 man league.  On October 11th the Colts hosted Weyburn and defeated the Eagles 16-0.  Their last regular season league game was in Moose Jaw on Oct 15 where they defeated Central 35-19.  They ended the regular season at 5-1 and will now host Estevan in the first round of the playoffs.  The game is set for Swift Current on Saturday, October 22nd.  Game time is 1:00 p.m.

                In 9 man football, Maple Creek Redmen have two games left in the regular schedule.  On October 17, they will travel to Fort Qu’Appelle to play a make up game.  Then on Friday, Oct 21 they will travel to Indian Head for the last regular season game.  Shaunavon Shadows travelled to Lumsden on Oct 11 for a make up game and lost 16-0.  They turned around on Oct 14 and hosted Fort Qu-Appelle and won by a score of 41-20.  The Shadows finish the league with a record of 2-4.

                In 6 man football, Gull Lake played their first playoff game on Oct 15 and defeated LCBI 83-32.  They will now host Raymore on October 22. 

                Both Swift Current Comp soccer teams have had a successful season in the Moose Jaw soccer league.  The Ardens once again finished in first place after the regular season.  In the semi finals on Oct 13 the Ardens defeated Weyburn 6-1.  They will now face Moose Jaw Central in the league championship on Oct 18.  The Colts finished 1st after their inaugural season in the Moose Jaw boys soccer league.  The Colts defeated Weyburn 3-1 in the first playoff game.  They will now travel to Moose Jaw on Oct 17 to take on Peacock in the semi finals. 

                All four Chinook soccer teams will be attending SHSAA regional soccer playoffs on Oct 21/22.  Teams will be vying for a spot at the SHSAA provincial championships.  In 1A girls action, Herbert Laurels will travel to Caronport while the boys will be off to LCBI.  In 3A boys play, Swift Current will travel to Prince Albert.  The Swift Current Ardens will be hosting regional soccer.  The top 2 teams at each regional competition advance to provincials.  Good luck to all our soccer teams!

                In senior volleyball leagues, host sites are as follows:

Senior girls league Oct 18 – host sites include Eastend, Fox Valley and Herbert.

Senior boys league Oct 19 – host sites include Frontier and Shaunavon.

Senior girls league Oct 25 – host sites include Frontier, Hazlet and Shaunavon.

Senior boys league championship will be Oct 26 – site TBD.
