CHINOOK SCHOOL DIVISION SPORTS REPORT

                The SHSAA provincial golf championships were held in Estevan on Sept 22 & 23. The weather definitely played havoc as the tourney had to be suspended on Friday afternoon for an hour as a storm passed through and the weather remained cool throughout the weekend.  The competition saw 64 males and 33 males vying for both individual and team titles.  The Swift Current Comp boys placed 4th overall in the team competition.  Congrats to Gaige Calkins, Griffin Wilson, Ethan Fizell , Nikhil Pool and coach Ron Bailey.  Individual results were as follows:

11th Gaige Calkins (Swift Current Comp)

Tied for 13th Ethan Fizell (Swift Current Comp)

Tied for 15th Griffin Wilson (Swift Current Comp)

39th Rylan Egland (Eastend)

61st Nikhil Pool (Swift Current Comp)

                The SWAC district cross country championships will take place at Grasslands National Park on Saturday, Sept 30.  We are expecting approximately 150 runners in grades 4-12 to take part.  Students from a number of schools will take part:  All Saints, Consul, Eastend, Ecole Centennial, Frontier, Herbert, Hodgeville, Irwin, Ponteix, Swift Current Comp, Stewart Valley, Val Marie, Vanguard, Waldeck and Wymark.  Racing will start at 11:00 a.m. at the Two Trees Trail day use camp area.  The younger age groups will run first.  Pee Wees are runners in grades 4,5 and 6.  This will be followed by the Bantam age group (grades 7,8).  This will be followed by the high school groups (grades 9-12). 

                The second week of the senior girls volleyball league was held on Sept 19.  Results were:

Consul over Eastend (16-25, 25-16, 15-4)

Hazlet over Consul (25-9, 25-16)

Hazlet over Eastend (25-8, 25-18)

Location – Gull Lake:

Gull Lake over Maple Creek (25-23, 25-17)

Hodgeville over Maple Creek (25-17, 25-11)

Hodgeville over Gull Lake (25-22, 25-23)

                The senior boys volleyball league consist of 4 teams.  Week 1 of competition was held Sept 20 at Frontier.  Results were:

Shaunavon over Frontier (25-23, 26-24)

Vanguard over Ponteix (25-14, 25-11)

Shaunavon over Ponteix (25-5, 25-9)

Vanguard over Frontier (25-12, 25-15)
