Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association provincial cross country championships were held in Turtleford on October 14, 2017.  A dusting of snow and a cool breeze greeted the runners as competition got underway at noon after opening ceremonies and a course walk through.

Over 160 schools were represented by the 575 student athletes registered to compete in the championship.  MLA Larry Doke represented Sask Tel (SHSAA major sponsor) during the opening ceremonies.  Sask Milk (SHSAA major sponsor) provided free milk products to the race participants at the conclusion of each race.  Individual and school team awards were presented at the end of the day with the assistance of Robert Mitchell (former provincial cross country medalist) who was representing Credit Unions of Saskatchewan (SHSAA major sponsor).

Turtleford School and community is to be commended on the excellent job they did in hosting the province.  There were many, many red-shirted volunteers that assisted in making the championship a success.  Laurel Derenoski, Colleen Norris, Doug Milne, Jason Stein, and the rest of the host committee put in many hours of labor into developing the course and made sure every detail of race day was looked after.
