The Swift Current Ardens captured the silver medal at the SHSAA 3A girls’ provincial soccer championships. The girls travelled to Estevan on October 27 & 28. They played the host team from Estevan in the first match and came away with a 7-0 victory. In their second game on Friday, the Ardens played Saskatoon Centennial and won by a score of 3-1. This put them in the gold medal match on Saturday versus Saskatoon St. Joseph. The Ardens lost 5-0 and received the silver medals. Congrats to the Ardens and their coaches Daunean Dash, Dale Perry and Stephen Mah on a great season (20-2)! The Swift Current Colts attended 3A boys’ provincials in Regina. The boys lost two games on Friday and were eliminated. They lost to Yorkton 10-0 and Regina LeBoldus 7-0. Herbert Laurels participated in 1A boys’ provincial soccer at Middle Lake. The Laurels also lost both games on Friday. They played Rosthern Jr College first losing 3-1 then to Sakewew 6-2. Thanks to all the teams for representing the Southwest at provincials!
The high school football playoffs ended for the Gull Lake Lions and Swift Current Colts on October 28. The Lions hosted Kerrobert in 6 man quarter finals and lost by a score of 58-22. The Colts travelled to Yorkton and lost to a strong squad in the Moose Jaw 12 man league finals. The Colts received the “Most Sportsmanlike Team” award in the MJ league. Congrats to the Shaunavon Shadows as they will advance to the 2A 9 man provincial semifinal in Nipawin on November 4. The Shadows advanced by hosting Unity on October 28 and winning by a score of 18-0. Good luck to the Shadows!
The SWAC junior volleyball championships will be held on Saturday, November 4. The boys’ tournament will be played in Frontier while the girls will play in Fox Valley. The boys’ teams participating will be Frontier, Shaunavon, Leader, Fox Valley, O.M. Irwin and Swift Current Comp. The girls’ teams involved are Fox Valley, Maple Creek, Shaunavon, Val Marie, O.M. Irwin and Swift Current Comp.
The senior volleyball teams will be starting SHSAA playoffs. There are 3 levels of play starting with conference playoffs then regionals and lastly provincials. All the schools are divided into categories based on high school enrolment numbers. The girls conference play will start the first weekend in November. The hosts include:
1A girls @ Consul. Participating teams include Consul, Eastend, Frontier, Hazlet, Fox Valley, Eston and Cabri. Action will start Friday at 4:30 and then Saturday at 9:00 a.m. The top 2 advance.
1A girls @ Hodgevillle. Participating teams include Hodgeville/Vanguard, Ponteix, Ecole Mathieu, Rockglen, Mankota and Gravelbourg. Action will start Saturday at 10:00 a.m. The top 2 advance.
2A girls @ Herbert. Participating teams include Herbert, Leader, Gull Lake and Eatonia. Action will start Saturday at 10:00 a.m. The top 2 advance.
Other Southwest girls teams playing on November 3 & 4 include Shaunavon Silhouettes who will play at 3A girls conference play at Moose Jaw Cornerstone and Maple Creek Rebels who will travel to Unity for 4A girls play.
The boys will start play on the weekend of November 10 & 11. We will host a 1A boys conference tournament at Cabri as well as 5A boys regionals in Swift Current.
The senior girls and boys volleyball league will finish up with the league championships on Wednesday, November 1. On the boys’ side, Shaunavon finished first and will play #4 seed Ponteix at 5:00 followed by #2 Vanguard/Hodgeville playing #3 Frontier at 6:00. This will be followed by the consolation then the final at 8:00.
On the girls’ side, the final standings were:

3rd – Hodgeville/Vanguard
4th – Maple Creek
5th – Consul
6th – Gull Lake
7th – Eastend
The finals will be held in Hazlet with the host playing #4 Maple Creek at 5:00 followed by #2 Frontier playing #3 Hodgeville/Vanguard at 6:00. Consolation at 7:00 and final at 8:00.
