It was a very busy weekend of volleyball throughout the province including the Southwest.  SWAC hosted 3 conference playoffs for girls on Nov 3 & 4.  At the 1A level, Consul and Hodgeville hosted.  There were 7 teams in Consul.  The results of Pool A were 1st Fox Valley (2-0), 2nd Hazlet (1-1) and 3rd Cabri (0-2).  In pool B, it was 1st Eston (3-0), 2nd Frontier (2-1), 3rd Eastend (1-2) and 4th Consul (0-3).  In the semi finals, Fox Valley defeated Frontier (2-1) and while Eston beat Hazlet (2-0).  In the final, the Fox Valley Legends took the title with a 2 set victory over Eston (25-22, 25-19).  Congrats to the Legends and their coaches Kendra Lehmann and Pat Wilde!  Both Fox Valley and Eston will now advance to Regionals.  Thanks to Consul and commissioners Tanya Howell and Lisa Olson for hosting!

                Hodgeville hosted 6 teams at their conference.  Pool A results:  1st Hodgeville (2-0), 2nd Ecole Mathieu (1-1) and 3rd Rockglen (0-2).  Pool B results were 1st Gravelbourg (2-0), 2nd Mankota (1-1) and 3rd Ponteix (0-2).  In the semi finals, Hodgeville defeated Mankota 2-1 while Gravelbourg beat Ecole Mathieu 2-1.  Gravelbourg defeated Hodgeville in the final 2-0 (25-22, 25-22).  Congrats to Hodgeville and their coach Sandy Krauchek.  They will advance along with Gravelbourg to Regionals.  Location TBD.                 Herbert Laurels hosted the 2A girls conference play.  Thanks to Herbert School and commissioner Danika Wolfe for hosting!  After the 4 team round robin, the standings were 1st Leader (3-0), 2nd Herbert (2-1), 3rd Gull Lake (1-2) and Eatonia (0-3).  Congrats to the Leader Saints and coach Lana Steckler-Marshall and Herbert Laurels and coach Danika Wolfe as both will advance to regionals.  The 2A girls regionals will be in Leader on Nov. 10 & 11.  As well as Leader and Herbert, there will be Pierceland, Rossignol (Ile-a-la-Crosse), Kerrobert and Luseland. 

                Shaunavon Silhouettes travelled to Moose Jaw for 3A girls conference volleyball.  After the 5 team round robin, the Silhouettes finished 2nd to Moose Jaw Cornerstone.  The Silhouettes had wins over MJ Riverview (2-0), Assiniboia (2-0), Gravelbourg (2-0) but lost to the host Cornerstone (2-0).  Shaunavon will now advance to regionals.  Location TBD.

                Maple Creek Rebels were in Unity for 4A girls conference play.  The Rebels finished with a record of 1-3 and will not advance.  They beat Kindersley (2-1) but lost to Unity (2-0), Dalmeny (2-0) and Rosetown (2-1). 

                Saskatchewan High Schools Athletics, in consultation with the Saskatchewan Legion, will honor Remembrance Day on Saturday, November 11.  Most host schools in both volleyball and football will have a Remembrance Ceremony.  As well, no games will begin until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.

                In 2A 9 man football action, the Shaunavon Shadows travelled to Nipawin for the provincial semi final and came away with a 57-13 victory over the Bears.  The Shadows led 29-0 at the half.  Shaunavon will now host Indian Head in the provincial 9 man final.  Indian Head defeated Foam Lake 32-7 to advance.   The final will be held on Saturday, November 11. Good luck to the Shadows!!

                Boys volleyball playoffs will commence on the Nov 10 & 11 weekend as well.  SWAC will host 1A boys’ conference play at Cabri.  Teams will include Hazlet/Cabri, Frontier, Leader, Vanguard and Beechy.  The top 2 teams will advance.

                Also hosting will be Swift Current Comp Colts as they will be the site of the 5A boys’ regional volleyball championships.  Visiting teams will include Balgonie, Yorkton Regional, Moose Jaw Central, Moose Jaw Peacock, Estevan and Weyburn.  Games will start Friday at 5:00, 6:30 and 8:00 then begin again Saturday at 1:00 with the playoffs.  The regional final game is set for 5:30 p.m.  The top 3 teams will advance to SHSAA provincials in Meadow Lake on Nov 17 & 18. 

                Other volleyball teams on the road Nov 10 & 11 include:

2A boys conference @ Gravelbourg – Fox Valley & Ponteix.  5 team round robin with the top 3 advancing to regionals.

4A boys conference @ Moose Jaw – Shaunavon Shadows.  5 team round robin with the top 3 advancing to regionals.

5A girls regionals @ Estevan – Swift Current Ardens will be part of a 7 team tournament with the top 3 advancing to Provincials on Nov 17 & 18 in Melfort. 

                  The horrible road conditions and weather caused the cancellation of the SWAC junior district volleyball championships on Saturday, November 4. 

                The SWAC senior boys and girls volleyball leagues held their championships on November 1.  Congrats to the Shaunavon Shadows and their coach Riley Zielke on winning the league title!  The Shadows began play by defeating the #4 seed Ponteix Predators 25-9, 25-3.  The second match saw #2 Vanguard defeat #3 Frontier 27-25, 23-25, 15-11.  In the consolation final, Frontier Raiders beat Ponteix 21-25, 25-17, 15-13.  The final saw the Shadows win 2-0 over Vanguard (25-16, 25-19).  Thanks to Shaunavon for hosting the final!

                Hazlet hosted the girls’ league final.  In the opening match, #1 Hazlet defeated #4 Maple Creek 25-18, 25-17.  The next match featured #3 Hodgeville upsetting #2 Frontier 21-25, 25-22, 15-11.  On the consolation side, Frontier beat Maple Creek 25-13, 24-26, 15-13.  The final saw the Hazlet Chargers defeat Hodgeville 26-24, 25-13.  Congrats to the Chargers and their coach Kerri Keenleyside!

                It will be an exciting weekend of volleyball when Fox Valley hosts 1A girls’ provincial volleyball on November 17 & 18.  The second site will be Maple Creek High.  There will be 10 teams participating including the host Fox Valley Legends.  The opening ceremonies will be held in Fox Valley gym on Friday, November 17 beginning at 10:45 a.m.  The opening matches will begin in both gyms at noon on Friday.  More info to follow!
