The Shaunavon Shadows finished the regular season of the SWAC senior basketball league with a record of 6-0.  They hosted Frontier on Feb 6 and won 104-44.  Nixen Voll and Austin Smith led the way for Shaunavon with 24 points each while Brody Dumontel and Oakley Vidal replied with 10 each for Frontier.  The other boys’ game saw Swift Current Jr Colts travel to Maple Creek and get the road win 93-35.  Logan Friesen had 19 pts for the Colts followed by Rhett Vavra with 18.  The top scorer for Maple Creek was Tyson Forbes with 20 pts.  The semi finals are set with #4 Frontier travelling to #1 Shaunavon on Feb 13 while #3 Maple Creek will travel to #2 Swift Current Jr Colts on Feb 15 (7:00 pm).  The final will go after the February school break. 

                In senior girls’ league action on Feb 6, the visiting Herbert Laurels defeated Shaunavon Silhouettes 47-41.  The Laurels top scorer was Sarah Cannon with 15 pts while Jewel Jacobson added 12.  The Silhouettes were led by Kortlynn Fuller with 10 and Karrigan Johnston with 8 pts.  The other game saw the Swift Current Jr Ardens get the road victory in Maple Creek 51-47.  Kyla Morante was the top Ardens’ scorer with 25 pts while Payton Bock led by the way for Maple Creek with 16 pts.  The semi finals for the girls will go Feb 13 with #4 Maple Creek playing at #1 Shaunavon Silhouettes while # Swift Current Jr Ardens will play at #2 Herbert Laurels (5:30 pm).  The final will go after the February school break. 

                The junior basketball league had to re-schedule three of the four semi final games from Feb 8 due to weather.  The only game that was played saw the Gull Lake boys travel to Waldeck where the Warriors defeated Gull Lake 67-57.  The other games will be re-scheduled for this week:

Girls:

#4 Swift Current Comp gr 9’s vs #1 Shaunavon

#3 Maple Creek vs #2 Wymark

Boys:

#4 Shaunavon vs #1 Swift Current Comp gr 9’s.

The junior basketball finals will still try and go on Thursday, February 15.  The top remaining seed in the boys and girls will host the final. 

                The SWAC senior district curling championships were held on Feb 9 and 10 at Fox Valley curling rink.  Thanks to Fox Valley School and community for hosting.  Special thanks to our commissioners of James, DondaLee and Kalin Deis.  The results were as follows:

BOYS:

A side and SWAC champions – Swift Current Comp.  Skip Theo Lautsch, 3rd Grady Rogers, 2nd Tanner Ewert, lead Michael Orthner, coach Ron Bailey. 

B side – Ponteix.  Skip Tanner Kendall, 3rd Keegan Goffinet, 2nd Tyson Goffinet, lead Parker Larochelle, coach Trish Carleton.                                                                

Both of these teams will now advance to SHSAA regional competition on March 2 and 3 at Moose Jaw.

GIRLS:

A side and SWAC champions – Maple Creek.  Skip Morgan Robinson, 3rd Sydney Windjack, 2nd Rayel Jamieson, lead Madison Glascock, coach Holly Jamieson. 

B side – Gull Lake.  Skip Rachel Murray, 3rd Nikita Trapp, 2nd Brenlyn Butts, lead Jacey McCarty, coach Bev Dutton.

Both of these teams will now advance to SHSAA regional competition on March 2 and 3 at Moose Jaw.

MIXED:

A side and SWAC champions – Maple Creek.  Skip Janae Wilson, 3rd Luke Jamieson, 2nd Ashley Kramer, lead Zachary Guckert, coach Jocelyn Wilson.

B side –  Hodgeville.  Skip Hillary Sauder, 3rd Chayne Krauchek, 2nd Emma Krauchek, lead Tyson Petersen, coach Michelle Potapinski. 

Both of these teams will now advance to SHSAA regional competition on March 2 and 3 at Assiniboia. 

                The SWAC junior section curling playoffs were held in three locations on Feb 2 and 3.  Thanks to Hazlet (commissioner Kristy Sletten), Frontier (commissioner June Evenson) and Ponteix (commissioner Heather McCrea) for hosting!  The following teams will advance to the SWAC junior district curling finals in Maple Creek on March 2 and 3:

Cypress Hills:

Girls: A – Hazlet; B – Maple Creek.

Boys: A – Hazlet; B – Maple Creek.

Open: A - Leader ; B – Success.

Plus the host team Maple Creek

Rolling Hills:

Boys: A – Swift Current Comp

Open: A – Ecole Centennial ; B – Stewart Valley

Whitemud:

Girls: Shaunavon and Consul

Boys: A – Frontier

Open: A –Val Marie; B – Shaunavon.
