REGIONAL
BASKETBALL TOURNAMENTS
In
the 1A, 2A, 3A and 4A categories, each district will hold
a district championship in boys and girls basketball on
or before March 4, 2006. The winner of each district championship
will advance to a regional tournament on March 10 & 11,
2006.
The SHSAA
Office will select "additional" entries from the
teams that do not advance by winning the district championship.
Additional teams will be added to complete the field of 16-teams
for each regional tournament. Each Regional tournament (1A,
2A, 3A, and 4A) will consist of four (4) teams. They will
compete in an A/B side tournament; the team winning the 'A'
side will advance to HOOPLA. The host site for the regional
playoffs will be posted on the SHSAA web site March 6th. The
Regional playoff will be awarded at the completion of the
seeding of each classification. We realize the short time
lines involved but believe this is necessary to ensure valid
seeding of the tournaments. All District Officials' Commissioners
should prepare to host a minimum of 2 and possibly more Regional
Tournaments in each district. Schools interested in hosting
a regional basketball playoff are invited to submit a bid
to host on or before January 31st. Send bids to the SHSAA
office. Please check the SHSAA website for the tournament
draws.
Schools
that have a population of 251 or more male or female students
in grades 10-12 that are not located in Regina or Saskatoon,
will compete in the 5A category. The Hoopla participants
will be determined from two regional tournaments. Schools
in this category that are interested in hosting one of these
two regional tournaments are invited to submit a bid to host
on or before January 31st. Send bids to the SHSAA office.

Teams
in Regina and Saskatoon that have a population
of 251 or more male or female students in Gr. 10-12 will compete
in 6A basketball and will eliminate toward the provincial
championship by participating in their city championships.
Four male and four female teams from each city will qualify
to play at HOOPLA.
SEEDING
OF TEAMS FOR REGIONAL PLAYOFFS
To seed
the basketball playoffs the cooperation and input from all
coaches is requested. The SHSAA office requires written confirmation
of season results from ALL BASKETBALL TEAMS. Include
results of all games played (tournament, league, exhibition)
including who your opponents were and the result, win or loss.
Also, include your opinion as a coach regarding the top 8
teams in your classification. Include all results up to and
including the February 25th weekend. Submit them to the SHSAA
office by Monday, February 27, 2006.
In
addition, schools holding a regular season tournament are
requested to post tournament results on the SHSAA message
board under the topic 'School Tournaments'. District Commissioners
are asked to post District basketball results on the SHSAA
message board; the various headings are listed under District
Playoff Results.
