1. Saskatoon
/ Regina Delegation Presentation
Howard Schweitzer (Commissioner of Athletics - RHSAA, Chuck
Toth - RHSAA President, John Marciniuk - Saskatoon Catholic
Athletic Commissioner, Kelly Bowers - SSSAD Commissioner of
Athletics and Jeff Colquhoun - Evan Hardy Collegiate) attended
the meeting on behalf of the Saskatoon and Regina Basketball
groups. They made a presentation to the Executive Council
to reconsider the motion 04/04/03 from the 2004 SHSAA Annual
General Meeting.
MOTION
by Eliasson/McDougall to not overturn the Saskatoon resolution
(04/04/03) that was defeated at the 2004 SHSAA AGM. CARRIED
MOTION
by Eliasson/McDougall to recommend a compromise alternative
to the Saskatoon/Regina group. The compromise would be to
keep the Small Cities in the 5A classification, pilot an eight
team tournament in the 5A category for 1 year and offer option
#2 (2 regionals - North and South; each having 4 city teams
and 4 small cities teams - with 4 teams qualifying for Hoopla).
WITHDRAWN
MOTION
by Eliasson/McDougall to offer as a compromise an eight-team
tournament keeping the small cities teams in 5A and offering
two options. Option A is the above option. Option B is virtually
the same with the exception being that there not be two regional
tournaments for the 5A, but to have Regina and Saskatoon's
top four teams seeded #1 - #4, and to seed the eight small
cities teams # 1 - #4 North and #1 - #4 South. Have the City
#1 host the S.C. #4, City #2 host the S.C. #3, S.C. #1 host
the City #4 and S.C. #2 host the City #3. The same would be
held in the other half of the province. The four winners from
each set of pre-provincial games would qualify to Hoopla.
CARRIED
MOTION
by Segall/Riley that each group (Regina, Saskatoon and Small
Cities) would receive one vote for the two options. Majority
wins. CARRIED
