Curling

Curling (5.3)

1. The league exhibition schedule shall consist of round robin pools. Only a junior curler may move up to substitute on a senior competitive team

2. Playdowns:
a) The top five teams from each pool will qualify for the play downs. The play downs will consist of round robin play. The top 4 teams (2 from each pool) will advance to the semi – finals. If there is one pool the top 4 will advance.

Semi – finals -Two Pools                     Semi – Finals – One Pool
#2 Pool B vs #1 Pool A                       #4 vs#1
#2 Pool A vs #1 Pool B                       #3 vs#2

b) Boys - Girls- Mixed Playdown
- A maximum of eight (8) rinks will qualify for the playdown in each of these divisions. The rinks that qualify will be the top eight teams after our league play is finished.
- The rinks will be put into two 4-team pools. A complete round robin will be played with the top two in each pool moving into a playoff round to decide the Gold, Silver and Bronze medals.
- In the semi-finals, A1 plays B2 and A2 plays B1. The winners play for Gold/Silver while the losers play for Bronze.
- It is our hope that the Bronze and Gold/Silver games in each division will be played on one evening draw, preferably on a Friday or Saturday night.

c) Tie-Breaking Procedure: (Boys - Girls - Mixed Playdown)
In the event of a 3-way tie for first place after round robin play, there will be a draw and the winner will be placed 1st in the pool. The remaining two teams will play each other with the winner earning 2nd place in the pool.

Should we have a 3-way tie for second place in the pool, we will have a draw with the selected team advancing to a play-off final. The remaining two teams will play an initial play-off game. The winner of this game will play against the team that won the draw, with that game's winner becoming the second representative from the pool.

d) Tie – Breaking Procedure (One Pool): (Boys – Girls – Mixed Play Down)
In the event of a three – way tie for first place after round robin play, there will be a draw and the winner will receive a bye to the second tie – breaker. The remaining two teams will play in the first tie – breaker. The loser of this game will be placed 3rd. The winner will play in a second tie – breaker with the winner of this game placing 1st in the Pool.

3. A school is allowed an unlimited number of entries.

4. In Senior boys and girls competition, rinks shall consist of a maximum of 5 competitors.

5. In Mixed and Junior competitions, rinks shall consist of a maximum of 6 competitors.

6. Curling eligibility lists for all teams must be entered on the SHSAA web site twenty – four (24) hours prior to the team’s first league game.

7. Mixed rules:
- During league play, all teams must have 4 players (2 boys and 2 girls) or the game will be defaulted.
- During league play, a substitute may fill in for more than one team if a school has two or more teams in the mixed league. However, a student may only substitute in one RHSAA league. In other words, a curler may not substitute in the senior girls' league and the mixed league.
- For the playoffs, substitutes must be designated for each mixed team entered to fill in for absentees from that team. Should you earn the right to enter more than one team in the playoffs, each team will need its own designated substitutes.

8. A default will count 4-0.
One point will be awarded for every 10 minutes a team is late. As well, with every 10 minutes late, teams will play one less end. After 30 minutes, a game will be declared a default.

9. Coaches PLEASE discourage slow play.

10. All games are in the League and Play-offs will be a maximum of 8 ends. Junior teams will be composed of grade 9 and 10 students.

11. Junior teams do not have to designate substitutes.

12. Senior boys and girls teams must list substitutes on the eligibility sheets. A substitute may only play for the team he or she is designated to substitute for.

13. A player cannot play on two senior teams in play-offs. eg. Sr. Girls and Mixed.

14. Any team that defaults more than three times cannot qualify to go into the playdowns.

15. Teams in the playdowns will be referred to by their school name and by the Skip's last name, (eg. Martin - Bryden)

16. In the play-offs, ties will be broken by extra ends. If time becomes a factor, the sub-commissioner at the rink will set up mini-ends (one rock per player).
