Badminton (5.1)

1. There will be competition in the following five categories:
(a) Boys' Singles
(b) Girls' Singles
(c) Boys' Doubles
(d) Girls' Doubles
(e) Mixed Doubles

2. Regina representatives leading to provincial competition, shall be determined by city play-offs

3. For city play-offs:
(a) A school may enter a maximum of two individuals or two teams (in doubles) per category.
(b) A competitor may enter only one category.
(c) The rules as laid down by the Canadian Badminton Association shall be adhered to at all times. Exception: Between sets the Commissioner may permit a maximum of fifteen minutes resting time.
(d) The play-offs shall take place at a site or sites determined by the Commissioner.
(e) The honour system of officiating shall prevail.
(f) A double elimination competition shall be used.
(g) Points for school trophy:

  • 2 points for each win on the A-Side of the draw
  • 1 point for each win on the B-Side of the draw
  • no points awarded for byes or defaults

(h) Placings:
1st: Winner of the A-B Final

2nd: Loser of the A-B Final
* B Side winner must win twice

3rd: Loser of the B Side Final

  • Medals for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in all divisions.
  • Trophy for 1st place (stays in the school).
  • 1st and 2nd place finishers advance to the sections.

(i) Teams should be seeded, "A" number 1 team, "B" number 2 team.

(j) A match in the first round will constitute of one game to 21. Students should switch sides at 11. The match will be set at 19 or 20.

4. Regional Coaches: In order to ensure that we have coaches available to take our athletes to regional competition we agreed to a rotation that would ensure that we have at least two coaches available on the Saturday of regional competition, and that they know of the date well in advance and can be available.

Note: We also understand that the coaches of the winning team(s) may decide to bump one of the rotation coaches. However, It is clear that the responsibility for taking the team rest with those assigned to the rotation.

Golf (5.4)

Provincial Golf:

1. An eighteen hole competition will be held in the fall to choose the Provincial Golf Team.

2. The top three (3) male golfers and top three (3) female golfers at this competition will advance to the Provincial Championships.

3. As well, this competition will determine a school team champion that will also advance to the Provincial Championships. This team may have a maximum of 6 golfers, 2 of which must be of the opposite sex and a minimum of 4 golfers, 1 of which must be of the opposite sex.

4. Ties will be broken by retrogression.

City Golf:

1. Several league competitions will be held in the Spring leading to an eighteen hole, medal play, city championship tournament.

2. Schools may enter a maximum of six golfers in any or all of the competitions.

3. All local golf rules apply.

4. Eligibilities must be sent to the R.H.S.A.A. Athletic Office prior to the first competition.

5. Structure of the league schedule:

  • Golfers will be ranked from one to six.
  • Golfers 1,2,3 and 4 will play competitive matches against other schools.
  • The competition will be match play.
    2 points to the winner of the front nine
    2 points to the winner of the back nine
    2 points to the winner of eighteen
    1 point for any ties
  • Golfers 5 and 6 will play against other schools (medal play)
  • A league trophy will be awarded at the City Tournament.

6. Rules for the league schedule:

  • All students must be experienced golfers.
  • All students must understand the rules of etiquette.
  • Continuous putting by golfers 5 and 6.
  • Two minute time limit for lost balls.
  • All rounds are eighteen holes.
  • All golfers must play each hole out.

7. Rules for the city championship:

  • The city championship will be an eighteen hole medal competition.
  • Entries must be designated junior and senior, boy or girl.
  • Individual medals will be given for Boys (1-2-3), Girls (1-2-3), and Junior Boys (1-2-3).
  • Juniors are under 17 as of August 31st of that school year and are in grades 9 or 10.
  • To participate in the city championship the student must participate in the league.
  • Every golfer in this event must play every hole out. There are to be no "gimmes".

Baseball (5.15)

1. Games: All games start at 4:15 pm. No inning may begin after 5:45 pm (except play-offs). All games are maximum of five innings. Three innings constitute a game.

2. S.A.B.A. rules will prevail.

3. League:

Meginbir Division - (Schools East of Albert Street)
Balfour, Campbell, Johnson, LeBoldus, Miller, Usher

Homme Division - (Schools West of Albert Street)
Luther, Knoll, Martin, O'Neill, Riffel, Sheldon, Thom

4. Rules For League Games:

  • Start at 4:15 pm
  • No inning to start after 5:45 pm, except play-offs.
  • Games are five innings
  • In case of bad weather, three innings constitute a game.
  • It is the home team's responsibility to re-schedule rain outs. It will be the assumption of all involved that the game will be played the following day if possible. The coach must contact the visiting team's coach, confirm a date for the playing of the game and then call the Commissioner. The Commissioner will call the Assigner and ensure that an umpire will be available for the rescheduled game.
  • Tied games remain at ties unless there is time for another inning to start before 5:45 p.m.

5. Tie Breaking Procedures:

  • Head-to-Head record between tied teams.
  • In the event of three or more tied teams, difference between runs for and runs against in games played among those tied teams.

NOTE: To alleviate "running up scores", a maximum difference of 7 runs in a game will be used in the calculations.

"If teams do not play an equal number of league games because of weather and resultant re-scheduling problems, we will use a percentage system to determine final order of finish.

(Example):
A team winning 4 games out of 8 played would have earned 8 points out of a possible 16 points or a 50% success rate. A team winning 3 games of 7 played would have earned 6 points out of a possible 14 points for a 43% success rate and therefore would finish below the team cited above.

  • Win-Loss record of tied teams against highest finishing common opponent.
  • Difference between runs for and runs against in games played against highest finishing common opponent.
  • Difference between runs for and runs against, games played. (7 run rule)

6. Play-offs:

  • The Home Team will be the team with the best record.
  • The Home team in the final will be decided by a flip of a coin if the two teams have identical records. Otherwise the team with the best winning record (% or otherwise) will be declared the home team.
  • Mercy Rule: City Final 10 up after five innings.
  • This game will be played at Currie Field and will be seven innings.
  • Home games in the play-offs may only be played at fields with mounds.

Softball (5.55)

1. The schedule will be played in the Spring.

2. Eligibility sheets must be received by the RHSAA Office prior to each team's first league game.

3. The RHSAA will provide the home plate umpire for all games. In play-offs two umpires will be hired.

4. The Spalding 1775, Dudley SB12L and Wilson A9110 (Green) are acceptable for league games.

5. S.A.F.A. rules will apply with the following exceptions:

  • Games will be a maximum of five innings with no inning starting after 5:20 pm.
  • For play-off games the quarter-finals will be five complete innings. Semi-final and city final will be 7 innings.
  • Game time - 4:00 pm (If a team is not prepared by 4:15 pm the game is forfeited).
  • No metal cleats.
  • Three innings constitute a game in bad weather.
  • Tie games are left as ties - Win (2); Tie (1); Loss (0) (regular season only).
  • Any game ejections must be reported to the Commissioner the next day.
  • Re-scheduled games policy:
  • The home team is responsible to set the date.
  • The game should be played the next day if at all possible.
  • All re-scheduled games must be played before the scheduled start of the play-offs.
  • If the coaches cannot agree on a date to play the re-scheduled game the Commissioner should be contacted.
  • It is mandatory that catchers, batters and runners wear helmets with functioning chin straps.
  • When reporting the score the seven run maximum rule is in effect.

6. DP - DEFOE Rule

  • The DP and DEFOE cannot be on offence at the same time.
  • The DP cannot be on defense only.
  • There is no substitute unless a player leaves the batting order.
  • The DEFOE may go in on offence for the original DP only.
  • The DEFOE can go in for the original DP position as many times as the lineup permits.

ILLEGAL SUBSTITUTION
a) any unannounced substitution
b) a defensive only player (DEFOE) that subs for any player other than the DP
c) use of a DP not originally on approved line-up

Penalty: This is an appeal play by offended team. When ruled ineligible, player is REMOVED from the game and can only participate as a coach.

ILLEGAL RE-ENTRY
a) starting player, including DP or DEFOE who re-enters twice
b) starting player who re-enters into different batting order
c) substitute player who re-enters the game

Penalty: EJECTION of coach (whose name appears on line-up card) and player in violation.

RULE 4.3

1. 10 players must be listed on the starting line-up.

2. May bat in any position from one through nine.

3. 10th player listed in the line-up plays defence only. (DEFOE)

4. DP/DEFOE may be substituted for at any time

. 5. The DEFOE may pinch it, pinch run for or replace the DP.

6. The DP/DEFOE may re-enter the game one time.

7. The DP/DEFOE may be suspended but never terminated.

8. The DP can play defence for any defensive player.

9. The DP and DEFOE cannot play offence at the same time.

10. The DP can never play defence only.

11. If the DP plays defence, that person becomes the temporary DP.

7. In case of tied in the league standings, ties will be broken as follows:

  • The team that won between the tied teams.
  • The team with the most wins between the tied teams.
  • The team with the best for and against, among the tied teams only (seven run maximum rule).
  • The team with the best for and against, among all teams (seven run maximum rule).
  • Any other possibilities to be handled by the Commissioner and coaches involved.
