The QVDA will be hosting a free basketball coaching clinic on Tuesday, February 14th.  The clinic will be held at Indian Head High School from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.  I do realize that the 14th is Valentine’s Day, but I thought it was fitting to symbolize our passion and love for the game basketball to host it on this day. The clinic will consist of two-1.5 hour sessions.  We urge basketball coaches of all levels to attend.  The first session will focus on player development, and the second session will focus on developing a pressure defence. The clinic will also include a nutritional break that consists of subs, cookies, and drinks for all participants.

For this event, we have been able to book two great presenters, Wayne Morrison and Dave Clark. Wayne Morrison is currently an assistant coach for the U of R's women's basketball team.  Prior to joining the Cougars, Morrison was the long-time senior girls' basketball coach at Athol Murray College of Notre Dame in Wilcox. Morrison guided the Hounds to a total of five provincial 3A championships, winning in 1986, 1987, 1999, 2000, and 2005.  Wayne also has extensive experience coaching with the Team Saskatchewan program. Dave Clark is currently the head coach of the Indian Head Senior Girls’ basketball team. Dave has been coaching basketball for the past 28 years.  Over the years, Dave has been able to build a competitive program at Indian Head High School.  He has experienced great success with 8 trips to Hoopla, which resulted in 6 consecutive trips and 5 medals.  Dave has presented at the SHSAA coaches symposium and has been a mentor to many young coaches in the local area.  We are looking forward to the vast knowledge these two hard-working coaches have to share.

We would like all participants of the clinic to register by Friday, February 10. It is important that you register so that we have a good idea of how many people to expect.  You can register by emailing your name and school to josh.godlien@pvsd.ca. Please forward this to your community coaches as well so we can strengthen the skills of our local coaches.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me through email. I look forward to seeing you at the clinic.
