                The Shaunavon Shadows will be hosting the SHSAA 2A 9 man football championships on Saturday, November 14.   The Shadows hosted Melville Cobras on Nov 7 and came away with a 58-20 victory.  The Shadows were ahead at the end of first quarter by a score of 8-0, halftime score was 36-9 and the third quarter score was 52-12.  Congratulations to the Shadows and their coaches Garret Glasrud, Justin Illerbrun, Aaron Audette, Mat Irvine, Jordi Thomas, Jesse Volle and manager Rachelle Dordu!  The provincial final will be Saturday, November 14 against Delisle who defeated Clavet 36-33 in the other semi.  Game time is slated for 1:00 p.m.  Good luck Shadows!

                Gull Lake Lions’ provincial run ended with a heart breaking 34-33 loss in Raymore in the 1A 6 man semi  final.  Congrats to the Lions and their head coach Neal Boutin on a great season!

                Lots of volleyball action over the Nov 7 weekend as the SHSAA conference play started for girls.  At the 1A level, Frontier won the conference title at home.  The Raiders finished first in their pool with a record of 2-0, Ponteix second with a record of 1-1 and Eastend third with a record of 0-2.  Ponteix lost their semi final to Mankota 2-0 while Frontier advanced to the final beating Glentworth 2-1.  The final was an exciting one with Frontier persevering 2-1 (25-12, 16-25, 27-25).  Both Frontier and Mankota will now advance to Regionals next weekend.  Thanks to Frontier School for hosting!

                In other 1A action at Central Butte, it was an all Southwest affair in the final as Leader took on Cabri.  Leader had finished first in their pool with a record of 2-0.  They defeated both Central Butte and Vanguard.  In the other pool, Cabri also finished 2-0 with wins over Beechy and Eyebrow.  The semi finals saw Leader over Beechy 2-0 and Cabri over Central Butte 2-1.  The final saw Leader take first with a 2-1 set victory over Cabri.  Both teams will now advance along with Frontier to the regional final.  Location TBA.

                Gull Lake Lions hosted the 2A girls’ conference volleyball.  The 4 team round robin ended with Fox Valley in 1st (3-0), Herbert in 2nd (2-1), Eston in 3rd (1-2) and Gull Lake 4th (0-3).  Both Fox Valley and Herbert will now advance to regionals next weekend – location TBA.  Thanks to Gull Lake for hosting!

                In 3A girls, Shaunavon Silhouettes travelled to Moose Jaw for their conference tournament.  After the 5 team round robin, Shaunavon finished 3rd with a record of 2-2 and will not advance to regionals.  The Silhouettes had wins over Moose Jaw Cornerstone (2-0) and Moose Jaw Riverview (2-0) and losses to Regina Harvest City (1-2) and Gravelbourg (1-2). 

                In 4A girls’ conference play at Kindersley, Maple Creek girls finished 3rd out of 4 teams and will also advance to regionals next weekend.  The Rebels had a win over Outlook (2-1) but lost to Rosetown (0-2) and Kindersley (0-2). 

                At the 5A level, the Swift Current Ardens will begin their provincial quest playing in regionals at Yorkton in a seven team tournament.  The top 3 can advance to provincials.  The Swift Current Colts will be playing in a seven team regional at Estevan.  They have secured a provincial berth as they are the hosts of 5A boys on November 20/21. 

                Also on November 14 will be SHSAA boys’ conference play.  SWAC will host 1A boys in Eastend.  There will be 4 teams competing – Eastend, Vanguard, Lafleche and Glentworth.  Action will start at 10:00 a.m.  Herbert boys will also be competing in 1A boys conference play as they travel to Rouleau.  At the 3A level, Leader/Hazlet boys will be travelling to LCBI in Outlook to play.  

                Some of our boys’ teams such as Fox Valley, Frontier, Ponteix and Shaunavon do not have conference play and will move right to regionals on Nov. 21.

                In junior volleyball action, all our teams have been decided for the SWAC district championships.  Thanks to all of our hosts for the sub/section playoffs!  The girls’ final will be held in Shaunavon on Saturday, November 14.  Teams participating include:

Rolling Hills A – Waldeck

Rolling Hills B – Swift Current Comp gr 9’s

Cypress Hills – Hazlet and Leader

Whitemud – Shaunavon and Frontier

The boys’ district final will be in Wymark on Saturday, November 14.  Teams participating include;

Rolling Hills A – Irwin

Rolling Hills B – Wymark

Cypress Hills – Fox Valley and Leader

Whitemud – Frontier
