CHINOOK SCHOOL DIVISION SPORTS REPORT

The SWAC senior district curling championships were held in Shaunavon on February 5 & 6. Thanks to Shaunavon for hosting and thanks to our commissioners Connie Allemand and Nancy Leroy. The boys title was won by Swift Current Comp (Skip Brendan Ross, 3rd Theo Lautsch, 2nd Tanner Ewert, lead Steven Hughes, coach James Kissick). The B side was won by Ponteix (team Goffinet). The girls’ title was won by Maple Creek (skip Brooke Martin, 3rd Anu Maalerud, 2nd Hannah Forbes, lead Josey Robinson, coach Marla Martin). The B side was won by Hodgeville girls. The mixed title was won by Hodgeville (skip Hillary Sauder, 3rd Ben Kerr, 2nd Emma Krauchek, lead Tyson Petersen, coach Michele Potapinski). The B side was won by Shaunavon. All the teams mentioned above will now advance to SHSAA regional curling on February 26 & 27. The girls and mixed will compete in Rosetown while the boys will curl in Biggar. Good luck teams!
The junior curlers started their playoffs on February 5 & 6 with three section bonspiels. The Cypress Hills section was held in Burstall (commissioner Brenda Garthus). The qualifiers were:
Girls A – Maple Creek; Girls B – Hazlet
Boys A – Leader; Boys B – Hazlet
Open A – Hazlet; Open B – Leader.
The Rolling Hills section was held at Hodgeville (commissioner Betty Thompson). The qualifiers were:
Boys – Hodgeville.
Open A – Swift Current Comp. Open B – Gull Lake (R. Murray).
The Whitemud section was held at Consul (commissioner Jamie Brost). The qualifiers were:
Girls A – Eastend (Richardson); Girls B – Val Marie
Boys A – Consul; Boys B – Val Marie
Open – Frontier and Val Marie.
The teams mentioned above will now advance to the SWAC district championships being held in Hodgeville and Morse on February 26 & 27. Good luck teams! Thanks to our section hosts.
There was only one senior girls’ game scheduled in the SWAC basketball league last week. On February 2nd, Maple Creek girls travelled to Swift Current to take on the Jr Ardens and came away with the 69-42 victory. The Rebels were led by LeQueasha Gyman with 26 pts and Jordyn Bock with 12. Replying for the Ardens was Lauryn Hayes with 12 pts and Mackenzie Veason with 6.
