The Maple Creek Redmen received the silver medal in 2A nine man football on November 12.  The Redmen travelled to Lumsden for the final.  The score at the end of the half was 8-1 for Lumsden.  At the end of the 3rd quarter it was 14-9 and thehe final score was 22-9 in favour of Lumsden.  Congratulations to the Redmen and their entire coaching staff!  It was a great season.

                Lots of volleyball action over the weekend in various locations.  1A girls west regionals were hosted by Fox Valley using Maple Creek’s gym.  The host Legends captured the west regional title playing Frontier in the final.  The Legends finished 1st in Pool A with wins over Mankota (2-0) and Avonlea (2-0).  Meanwhile in Pool B, Frontier also finished first with wins over Vanguard (2-0) and Eston (2-1).  Vanguard/Hodgeville did not advance as they finished the day at 0-2.  In the semi finals, Fox Valley had a close match but defeated the stubborn team from Eston 25-19, 22-25, 15-11.  Frontier cruised to a 25-10, 25-20 semi final win over Avonlea.  This set up an all southwest final!  It was a very even match with Fox Valley taking the first set 25-16 but Frontier rebounding in the second 25-17.  The third set was extremely close with  Fox Valley squeaking out a 16-14 win to capture the regional title.  Congrats to the Legends and their coach Pat Wilde and the Raiders and their coach Tanya Turner.  Both teams will now advance to 1A girls provincials on Nov. 18 & 19 at Rose Valley.                 Shaunavon hosted the 3A girls south regional on November 12.  Thanks to Shaunavon for hosting and Val Gordon for being commissioner.  The host Silhouettes finished 2nd in Pool B with a record of 1-1.  The Silhouettes defeated Lampman 2-1 but lost to Rocanville 2-0.  They then lost in the semi final to the eventual regional winner Oxbow by scores of 25-5, 25-8.  The Silhouettes season is now over.

                In 4A girls, Maple Creek Rebelles travelled to Humboldt.  The Rebelles finished 2nd in Pool A with a record of 1-1.  The girls had a win over Saskatoon Christian 2-0 but lost to Rosetown 2-0.  The Rebelles then played Lanigan in the semifinal but lost 25-21, 25-9.  Despite the loss, the girls still qualify for provincials.  They will be travelling to Lanigan on Nov 18 & 19 to take part in 4A girls provincials.  Good luck to the girls & their coach Rob Stewart. 

                At the 5A level, the Swift Current Ardens travelled to Weyburn to take part in the south regional tournament.  The Ardens finished 1st in Pool  A with wins over Moose Jaw Central 2-0 and Moose Jaw Peacock 2-0.  The Ardens then played Balgonie in the semi but lost an extremely close match 24-26, 25-17 and 13-15.  The set up a must win situation for the Ardens in the 3rd place game against Estevan.  The girls won by scores of 27-25 and 25-15 to advance to provincials in Regina on Nov 18 & 19.  Good luck to the Ardens and their coach Shawn Hiebert. 

                The Swift Current Colts are 5A boys south regional champs.  The Colts travelled to Estevan for the tournament and were first in Pool A.  They scored wins over Moose Jaw Central  2-0 and Estevan 2-0.  In the semifinal, the Colts cruised to a 25-10, 25-16 win over Balgonie.  This set up the final against Weyburn.  It went to three with the Colts capturing the title 20-25, 25-19 and 15-9.  Congrats to the Colts and their coach Daniel Andrie.  Good luck in Regina next weekend at 5A boys provincials!

                The rest of the senior boys volleyball teams were playing the first level of SHSAA playoffs as they attended conference tournaments.  Vanguard hosted their conference playoff at Hodgeville and captured the conference title with a perfect 4-0 record.  Leader was second at 3-1.  Frontier third at 1-3 and Lafleche 4th at 0-4.  Vanguard and Leader will now advance to regional play on November 19.

                Fox Valley hosted 2A boys conference and were also victors.  The Legends finished 3-0 to get first, Beechy was second at 2-1, Eston third at 1-2 and Hazlet 4th at 0-3.  Fox Valley and Beechy will now advance to regionals next weekend.  Also at the 2A level, Ponteix travelled to Gravelbourg but lost both matches and will not advance.

                In 4A action, Shaunavon Shadows went to Outlook for conference play and won the title with a perfect 4-0 record.  They defeated Outlook, Caronport, Assiniboia and Rosetown.  The Shadows will now advance to regionals next weekend.  Good luck!

                The SWAC junior district volleyball championships will be held on Saturday, November 19.  The boys will be held at Fox Valley with teams from Swift Current Comp, Wymark, Frontier, Shaunavon, Cabri and the host Fox Valley.  Games will start at 9:30 a.m. with the final scheduled for 5:30 p.m.  The girls will be held at Ponteix with teams from Swift Current Comp, Fox Valley, Leader, Consul, Frontier and the host Ponteix.  Games will start at 9:30 a.m. with the final scheduled for 5:30 p.m.  Good luck to all teams!
