Lots of soccer action in the southwest!  Congrats to both the Swift Current Ardens and Colts who captured the Moose Jaw Soccer league titles.  The Ardens played Weyburn in the final on Oct 19 and came away with their 9th league title in a row with a final score of 2-1.  The Colts played Moose Jaw Peacock in the final on Oct 18 and also won by a 2-1 score.  This was the Colts second year in the league and their second straight title.  The weekend of Oct 20 & 21 saw SHSAA regional soccer playoffs occur.  Swift Current was the site of two playoffs – Herbert hosted 1A girls at the same time as Swift Current Comp hosted 3A boys.  On the boys’ side, the Colts took on PA St. Mary’s in the first game and came away with a 4-2 victory.  They played PA Carleton in the final but lost 7-0.  By virtual of their second place finish, the Colts have qualified for SHSAA provincials in Balgonie on October 27 & 28.  In 1A girls’ action, Herbert Laurels lost a close game 1-0 to Dalmeny.  The other semi saw Martensville beat Caronport 5-0.  Martensville went on to beat Dalmey 2-0 in the final.  Thanks to our hosts Swift Current Colts and Herbert Laurels as well as our commissioners Adam Jackson and Randy McCulloch.

Congratulations go out to our two regional soccer champs.  Herbert Laurels captured the 1A boys regional in North Battleford with wins over host Maymont 5-4 and then Moose Jaw Vanier 3-2 in the final.  Well done Laurels and coach Ryan Gunstenson!  They will now travel to Middle Lake for provincials.  The Swift Current Ardens are 3A girls regional champs.  The Ardens travelled to Prince Albert.  They defeated Lloydminster Holy Rosary 11-0.  The final was an extremely close game with the Ardens winning 5-4 in a shoot out over hosts PA Carleton.  Congrats to the Ardens and their coaches Dale Perry, Stephen Mah and Daunean Dash.  The Ardens wll now travel to Estevan for provincials.  Good luck to all three of our soccer teams!

There are three teams still active in football playoffs.  In 6 man action, the Gull Lake Lions hosted  Central Butte on Oct 21.  Despite injuries to three key players during the week, and another one to the QB just before the half, the Lions were able to defeat Central Butte 81-30. Now the Lions will host the Kerrobert Rebels in 1A 6-Man provincial quarterfinal action in Saturday, October 28 at 1:00 PM.  In 9 man quarter finals, the Shaunavon Shadows will host Unity On Oct 28 at 1:00 p.m.  In 12 man football, the Swift Current Colts defeated Moose Jaw Peacock 36-15 in MJ on Oct 21.  The Colts will now go on the road to play Yorkton Raiders in the league final on October 28.  Good luck to all three teams!
