Both Shaunavon Shadows and Silhouettes continued their winning seasons in the SWAC senior basketball league.  They both got their 5th win of the season at home on Jan 16.  The Shadows defeated Swift Current Jr Colts by a score of 76-59.  Nixen Voll led the way with 35 pts for the Shadows while Austin Smith contributed 13.  The Jr Colts’ Bren Medina had 14 pts to be their top scorer.  Meanwhile the Silhouettes defeated the Swift Current Jr Ardens 74-43.  Kerigan Stevenson had 23 pts to lead the way for the Silhouettes and Jensen Piquette added 20.  Tonnier was the top scorer for the Ardens with 13 pts while Kyla Morante added 10 pts.  The other girls’ game saw Herbert Laurels get the home victory over Maple Creek 56-34.  The Laurels’ top scorer was Sarah Cannon with 17 pts while Jewel Jacobson added 12.  The top scorers for the Rebelles were Angela Fritzke and Alex Mason both with 11 pts.  The other boys’ game scheduled – Maple Creek at Frontier – was cancelled.  The league will take a couple of weeks off as students prepare for and write semester 1 exams.  Games will resume on Tuesday, February 6.

 Waldeck boys 63 @ Gull Lake 47

Jan 18:

Maple Creek girls 17 @ Wymark 49

Shaunavon girls 56 @ Swift Current Comp gr 9’s 17

Maple Creek boys 22 @ Shaunavon 74

Waldeck boys 46 @ Swift Current Comp gr 9’s 69

There are two junior games scheduled for Jan 25:

Shaunavon boys @ Waldeck

Gull Lake boys @ Maple Creek

                The senior high school curling playoffs will start on February 2 and 3.  The first level of play called sectionals will take place in 3 locations:

Cypress Hills section will take place at Maple Creek curling rink on Saturday, February 3rd.  Teams from Maple Creek, Fox Valley, Leader and Hazlet will take part.  There will be games at 9:30, 12:30 and 3:30.

Rolling Hills section will take place at Gull Lake curling rink on Saturday, February 3rd.  Teams from Gull Lake, Swift Current Comp, Hodgeville and Ponteix will take part.  There will be games at 9:30, 12:30 and 3:30.

Whitemud section will take place at Eastend curling rink on Friday, February 2.  Teams from Eastend, Shauanvon and Frontier will take part.  Games will start after school.

                Teams will be looking to advance to the SWAC district championships which will take place at Fox Valley on February 9 and 10.
