Shaunavon Shadows and Silhouettes will host the SWAC senior basketball league finals.  The Shadows went through the regular season at 6-0.  Unfortunately, Frontier had to forfeit the semi final game planned for Feb 13 so the Shadows will advance to the final where they will host Swift Current Jr Colts on Tuesday, February 27.  The Colts advanced by beating Maple Creek 90-38 on Feb 15.  The top scorers for the Colts were Carl Soriano and Ethan Riley both with 14 pts.  The Rebels were led by Michael Mudingayi with 19 pts.
Both girls’ semi finals were played on Feb 13.  The #1 ranked Silhouettes defeated Maple Creek 64-36.  Kerigan Stevenson had 21 pts for the Silhouettes while Jensen Piquette added 15.  The Rebelles were led by Alex Mason 21 pts and Payton Bock with 15 pts.  The other semi final saw the Herbert Laurels host Swift Current Jr Ardens  and come away with a 55-27 victory.  The Laurels’ top scorer was Jewel Jacobson with 18 pts followed by Olivia Peterson with 13 pts.  The Arden’s top scorer was Kyla Morante with 13 pts while MJ Anderson added 9.  This means the Silhouettes will now host Herbert on Tuesday, February 27 in the league final.

The SWAC junior girls basketball title was won by the Wymark Wolverines!  It was an exciting final and a close game from start to finish.  The Wolverines rallied in the 4th quarter to come from behind and post a 39-38 victory over the host Shaunavon Silhouettes.  Congratulations to the Wolverines and their coach Krysta Wishlow!  The junior boys title will be contested on February 27th when the Waldeck Warriors travel to Swift Current to take on the Grade 9 Colts.

There will be lots of curling action on the weekend of March 2 and 3.  The SWAC senior teams will be on the road for SHSAA regional curling.  The boys representatives (Swift Current Comp and Ponteix) and the girls (Maple Creek and Gull Lake) will be going to Moose Jaw.  Our mixed reps (Maple Creek and Hodgeville) will be going to Assiniboia.  The regionals will be a 6 team playoff with 2 teams advancing to provincials on March 9 and 10.  Good luck teams!

The SWAC junior district curling championships will take place at Maple Creek rink on March 2 and 3.  We have 4 boys, 4 girls and 7 open teams vying for the titles.  Games will start on Friday at 9:30 am.  This will be followed by draws at 11:30, 1:30, 3:30 and 5:30.  Action will resume on Saturday morning at 9:30 am.  This is a double knock out tourney so the A/B finals will go at 11:30 and 2:00 on Saturday.  Good luck to all teams:

Girls – Consul, Maple Creek, Shaunavon and Hazlet

Boys – Maple Creek, Swift Current Comp, Hazlet and Frontier

Open – Maple Creek, Ecole Centennial, Shaunavon, Leader, Stewart Valley, Success and Val Marie.

Swift Current Comp will be the host site for SHSAA regional wrestling championships on Saturday, March 3.  Wrestlers from all over Saskatchewan (excluding Saskatoon and Regina) will be taking part.  Action starts at 10:00 am. The Southwest only gets to host this about once every 10 years so will be an exciting day!
