Chinook SD Sports Report

The SHSAA provincial track and field championships were held in Prince Albert on June 1 & 2.  The weather did not cooperate at all as athletes battled very cold temperatures, wind and drizzle for both days.  Hats off to the athletes, coaches and all the volunteer workers who performed very well despite the adverse conditions.  There were over 1470 athletes from throughout the province participating  with 91 athletes (plus coaches) representing the Southwest.  Athletes competed in the midget, junior and senior categories in both individual events as well as relays.  SHSAA recognizes the top 8 in each event with medals/ribbons.  The following is a summary of the top 8 SW athletes:

GOLD:

Tyson Coward (SCCHS) – midget boys long jump

Scott Joseph (SCCHS) – junior boys 100m and triple jump

Rhett Vavra (SCCHS) – midget boys triple jump

SILVER:

Rhett Vavra (SCCHS) – midget boys 200m, 400m and long jump

Joseph Bosch (Fox Valley) – junior boys javelin

Macey Howell (Consul) – junior girls discus

BRONZE:

Jackson Sitter (Leader) – junior boys triple jump

Scott Joseph (SCCHS) – junior boys 200m

4th:

Jackson Sitter (Leader) – junior boys long jump

Aleah Nickel (SCCHS) – senior girls quadathlon

Logan Fritzke (SCCHS) – senior boys long jump

5th:

Brielle Wall (SCCHS) – junior girls 80m hurdles and high jump

Pilani Siwela (Hodgeville) – junior boys 400m

Kortlynn Fuller (Shaunavon) – senior girls high jump

Jaiden Lehmann (Fox Valley) – junior girls javelin

Logan Fritzke (SCCHS) – senior boys discus

Camryn Johnson (SCCHS) – midget girls shot put

6th:

Nixen Voll (Shaunavon ) – senior boys quadathlon

Ashley McDonald (SCCHS) – midget girls long jump

Parker Bloom (SCCHS) – junior boys high jump

7th:

Kalee Sauder (SCCHS) – senior girls 80m hurdles

8th:

Tye Tremere (Shaunavon) – senior boys 100m hurdles

Tiana Knight (SCCHS) – junior girls quadathlon

Pilani Siwela (Hodgeville) – junior boys 100m

Courtney Funk (Herbert) – senior girls 3000m

Rueben Kuzma (SCCHS) – junior boys 3000m

Kalea Sauder (SCCHS) – senior girls long jump

Brielle Wall (SCCHS) – junior girls long jump

Taylor Lind (Shaunavon) – junior girls javelin

RELAYS:

Junior boys 4 x 100m – silver.  Team was made up of Scott Joseph (SCCHS), Jackson Sitter (Leader), Pilani Siwela (Hodgeville) and Jordan Lamontagne (SCCHS). 

Midget boys 4 x 100m – bronze.  Team was made up of Tyson Coward (SCCHS), Chase Sawchuk (Maple Creek), Rhett Vavra (SCCHS) and Kaden Floberg (Shaunavon).

Senior girls 4 x 100m – 8th.  Team was made up of Kalea Sauder (SCCHS), Danica Messer (SCCHS), Charlene Hoffarth (Shaunavon) and Aleah Nickel (SCCHS).

Open boys 4 x 400m – 4th.  Team was made up of Rhett Vavra (SCCHS), Lane Pritchard (Shaunavon), Pilani Siwela (Hodgeville) and Dalton Chalk (SCCHS).  

Congratulations to Rhett Vavra of Swift Current Comp as he was named the midget boys aggregate winner!  Scott Joseph was 2nd in the junior boys aggregate.  Overall, Swift Current Comp won the 4A school title.  Thanks to all our athletes for a fantastic showing and thanks to all our coaches for all their hard work!
