Thanks to commissioner Todd Gramlich, and the Burstall Golf Course,  for hosting the SWAC Golf Championship on Saturday.  It was a warm, blustery day...but what a nice golf course and club house.  The Swift Current Comp male golf team will attend the Provincial Championship in North Battleford on Sept 21/22.  In addition, Kaden Gramlich, from Fox Valley, also qualified for the individual championship.  The SCCHS girl’s golf team is unable to attend the prov golf tournament this year.

SWAC football teams were in action on the weekend.  The Gull Lake Lions hosted Central Butte Bulldogs on Friday, Sept 7.  The hometown Lions won convincingly by a score of 35-8.  The SCCHS Colts were in Moose Jaw against MJ Peacock on Saturday, Sept 8th.  The Colts came away with a 21-6 win.  Great start to the season by our SWAC grid iron athletes.

There are three games scheduled for our football teams in the upcoming week.  On Thursday, Sept 13, the SCCHS Colts host their home opener against MJ Vanier.  Kickoff is 7:00.  It’s Friday Night Lights on Sept 14!!  The Shaunavon Shadows travel to Maple Creek to play under the lights.   Kickoff is 8:00.  The Gull Lake Lions will be on the road, Friday, Sept 14, to Outlook to take on LCBI.

The SCCHS Colt and Arden soccer teams traveled to Weyburn on Saturday, Sept 8 for a double header.  The Colts won their two games quite easily (10-1, 9-4).  The Ardens faced a tougher battle.  The first game was a 1-1 draw.  The second game found the Ardens on the losing end of a 2-1 score.  This is the first loss for the Ardens (in league play) in nine years (95 straight wins).  What an incredible achievement by the Arden soccer team!

There are upcoming soccer games for the Ardens and Colts.   Thursday, Sept 13 the SCCHS Colts will travel to Moose Jaw Central. On Friday and Saturday (Sept 13/14), SCCHS Ardens are in Moose Jaw for Soccerfest.

The SWAC senior girls’ volleyball league has 5 teams entered (Eastend, Gull Lake, Vanguard, Hazlet, Ponteix).  First league night is Tuesday, Sept 18.  We have two teams interested in a SWAC senior boy’s league (Frontier, Vanguard).  We are still working out the details of a double home/home.
